1. Miller Park Zoo

You do not want to miss out on the wonderful community zoo.

Miller Park Zoo has many different exhibits that will let you experience the world of each different animal. Stop by and visit the reindeer, flamingos, red pandas, Galapagos tortoise, Pallas' cat, and many more! The zoo also has indoor exhibits such as the Tropical America Rainforest, Katthoefer Animal Building, Wallaby WalkAbout, Children's Zoo, and Animals of Asia.

Make sure when you are there to stop into the Zootique Gift Shop to take home your own pressed penny souvenir! The zoo also offers many different events, all of which can be found here.

Have a child with a special interest in the zoological lifestyle? Make sure to check out their Junior Zookeeper Program. Created in 1972, the program works with students in junior high to high school to learn skills such as working with people, leadership, time management, and of course they get to spend some quality time with the amazing animals! 

The zoo also offers an Animal Adoption program that helps support the zoo! For one year, the cost starts at $25 and you get a personalized adoption certificate, fact sheet about the animal you personally adopted, and a letter from the Zoo Director!

2. McLean County Museum of History

Are you a history buff? Then this place is a must see! 

The McLean County Museum of History dates back to 1892. This museum is a nationally accredited winning museum with 7 total exhibits. Overall the museum has 20,000 objects, 15,000 rare books, and manages 2,000 feet of historical papers and images in their archives. 

The museum is located on Washington Street, between Center Street and Main Street. You can visit in Tuesdays for free, all other days it is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors, free for students and members. 

One of the top exhibits featured is Abraham Lincoln in McLean County exhibit. This exhibit takes you back in time to when Lincoln was an attorney in McLean County. The museum also has a Courthouse Exhibit, which takes you through the history of the courthouse buildings, the architecture, materials, and construction utilized to build their longest-standing courthouse.

3. Prairie Aviation Museum

The Prairie Aviation Museum museum features 8 aircrafts and 3 helicopters as well as one piston and two jet engines. The museum is a great place to view a variety of aircrafts and to learn more about aviation.

To visit, the admissions costs are as follows:

  • Adults $5
  • Seniors $4
  • 6-11 year olds $3
  • Children 5 and under are Free 
  • Museum members and active military members are free
Make sure to check here for their special events such as the Open Cockpit Days. On Open Cockpit Days (or OCD's) you can tour the museum and the Chuck Schumacher Aviation Air Park. If you are lucky, you might also see the collector cars at a Cruise-In that might be taking place during the same time. 

Make sure to stop by the gift shop before heading out with gifts ranging from $1-$30.

4. Lil Beaver Brewery

Everyone loves a good brewery! 

Make sure to stop into Lil Beaver Brewery and tast all their wonderful beers on their rotating tap. Can't stay long? That's okay, they have cans to go! 

When visiting, you can try a flight for $8 or enjoy anything on tap in their indoor and outdoor taproom. We recommend the Logger Lager, an America light style Lager.

5. The Normal Theater

Need a nice relaxing day with family or friends? Why not watch something at The Normal Theater? The theater has all the classic, indie, foreign, and Sundance films you are dying to see as well as amazing drinks and snacks!

With a full concession menu to choose from, you won't leave the movie theatre hungry! The theater opened in 1937 and plans to continue to serve the community. In addition to movies, they also host concerts, comedy shows, and lectures.

Epiphany Farms opened in January 2009. The restaurant is committed to supporting and growing local food. Their ingredients are locally sourced and they are actively apart of their community when it comes to the source of their food. The group has 75 acres of land that they utilize for their farm to table fresh food. Their menu features a variety of different dishes, including an Old Bank Smoked Mushroom Beet Burger for vegetarians or a Faroe Island Salmon. According to their Google reviews, many visitors recommend then Creme Brulee or the Bruschetta.

Shannon's Five Star

$-Family restaurant

Located on the Historic Route 66 and known for their made from scratch comfort food, Shannon's has become a popular spot in Bloomington. The restaurant has been serving breakfast, lunch, dinner and more since November 2003. Make sure to check out their daily specials here to see each entree on special as well as their soup of the day. Reviews recommend the breakfast buffet, buffalo chicken and the chili!

The Lucca Grill

The Lucca Grill was opened in 1936 by Fred and John Baldini who were sons of immigrants from Lucca, Italy. With a slogan of "A Tradition of Quality", you can't go wrong with anything you order here. Start off with an Antipsasto Platter and move onto one of their world-famous pizzas! We recommend the Lucca Supreme, but Google users recommend the fried ravioli.

Destihl Restaurant and Brew Works


Destihl has been serving the community since November 2007. In 2011, the brewpub took 10 of their beers to the Great American Beer Fest and became well known very fast. They have been named the "Brewery to Watch" by Draft Magazine, won 3 medals at the Great American Beer Festival, won multiple medals and Best in Show and Runner Up Best in Show at the National Wood Aged Beer Competition at the Festival of Barrel Aged Beer, and was included in teh "186 of the Best Beers in the World" in All About Beer magazine. With over 1,225 reviews on Google and a 4.5-star rating, this place is a must-try. On top of their amazing beer, they have some pretty awesome food. Visitors recommend the jambalaya and the Thai fried chicken.
